Up to 16 Alshabab fighters have been killed after heavy clashes between the militants and local people in Hurweyne location in Middle Shabelle Province, according to the official.
SomaliaEye has learned three local fighters have killed in the fighting, and state media reported this comes after early hours on Thursday Alshabab militants have attacked the Hurweyne village which is in between Ruun Nirgood and Nur Dugle towns which are also recently freed from the terrorists.
Abukar Sheikh Bashir, a local fighter who spoke with Somali National News Agency SONNA confirmed that seven of their members were injured and the situation of the area now calm and in control.
Somali government forces and local people have been fighting alshabab terror group in many parts of the country mainly in Hirshabelle and Galmudug states.
