Somali National Army and allied local fighters have fully taken control of the last district of Hirshabelle state, which is ruled by an al-Shabaab terror group, said the defense ministry spokesman.
Run-Nirgod district in Middle Shabelle province was on Thursday morning captured by the government forces and its allied local people, brigadier general Abdullahi Ali Anod confirmed in a press conference in the capital.
Government forces have been gaining much more terrain from the militants, and this town which is about 200-km away from Mogadishu was a key town that the terrorists had ruled for many years.
