New interim DG appointed for Somali Immigration

The Internal Security Minister of Somali Dr. Dodisho has appointed Ahmed Said Mohamed as the acting Director General of the Immigration and Naturalization Directorate, after former DG Abdul resigned following corruption charges against him and 17 other government officials.

The immigration Directorate the epicenter of the recent corruption campaign as a number of high officials including two former Director Generals were among officials chased by law enforcement.

Former DG Abdulkadir Elmi has fled the country ahead of roster for the office of Attorney General and last Friday night he resigned the post and denied any wrongdoing.

On Thursday, Somalia’s Prosecutor Sulieman Mohamud released 18 government officials who have been accused of corruption charges and embezzlement.

The Somali government is taking a campaign against the corrupt officials within the government institutions and increased transparency and accountability.
