In the last 24 hours, The Somali National Forces with the support of community-based forces have continued to win the war against Al Shabaab, reclaiming territories in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle Regions of HirShabelle State.
The Al Shabaab terror group which has continued to visit ruin and plunder in Somalia and neighbouring countries has suffered its biggest blow yet, with numerous insurgents having been killed and others injured. Several more have been captured or surrendered to the national forces.
The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirms its commitment to fighting the terror group until it is completely eliminated from Somalia and ensure that it is no longer a threat to the region and the world. Citizens are also warned to keep away from regions taken by the Al Shabaab as the SNA and community-based Forces will continue with the ruthless raids against these violent extremists.
The Federal Government of Somalia also reiterates its readiness to receive militants who are willing to surrender and denounce violence. It is only in so doing that they shall escape the wrath of the Somali National Army and community-based forces.
The Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali National Army remain committed to carrying out the ongoing operations in strict compliance with its obligations under international humanitarian law, human rights law, Islamic law and Somali customary rules of warfare.
