Somali National Army and allied local fighters have on Monday taken over Alkowthar village from alshabab militants, and officials have described one of the last strongholds for the militants in Middle Shabelle province, SomaliaEye reported.
The chief of defense forces General odawa Yusuf who spoke to the state media has confirmed the liberation of this key village which is under Adan Yabal district.
Last week government forces backed by local people liberated the strategic town of Adan Yabal, after nearly ten years under Alshabab.
Alkowthar is roughly 20km east of Adan Yabal district, and forces entered the area on Monday morning without resistance, according to the SNA officials.
