Somali President meets U.S. Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with the Secretary of Defense of the United States of America, Lloyd Austin at the Pentagon in Washington DC.

The President and the Secretary of Defense discussed security cooperation and shared goals between Somalia and the United States, Mr. Lloyd stated that the U.S. remains committed to its partnership with Somalia.

Meantime, the president will and will be travelling to New York to lobby for the lifting of more than 30-years-long arms embargo on Somalia.

The federal government of Somalia argues the arms embargo has crippled building the capacity of Somali security forces over the years, and specifically at a time when the country prepares for taking full security responsibility from the African Union peacekeeping mission.
